John Frank Stanley, 81, 294 North Road, Johnson City passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of the late Walter and Anna Mae Pendleton Stanley. Mr. Stanley was retired from the Johnson City Country Club where he had been employed for 43 years in the Golf Pro Shop and Cartmaster. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended East View Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Stanley was a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a two sisters, Gladys Freeman and Betty Dempsey; two brothers, Charles Stanley and Billy Joe Stanley.
Survivors include a son, Michael Stanley and wife, Angela of Johnson City; two daughters, Rebecca Andes and husband, Larry and Veronica Nichols and husband, Scott both of Johnson City; a sister, Peggy Fender of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Jessica Nickles, Sylvia Street and Cassie Nichols; four great-grandchildren, Briana and Kaylee Nickles, Serenity King and Malaysia Annabella; former wife and mother of his children, Wilma Scalf of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Stanley will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Steve Dingus officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour and other times at the home of his son, 2530 Louise Street, Johnson City. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 20, 2017 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard Detail. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
